Custom Entertainment Centers & Media Wall Built-Ins in Northern Virginia

custom entertainment center built-ins

Living rooms across Northern Virginia have changed. TVs are bigger. AV setups are more involved. And homeowners expect the room to look good with all of it in it.

A freestanding TV stand from a furniture store rarely keeps pace. The screen sits too high, cords run across the wall, and the shelving never quite holds what you actually own. A built-in media wall solves all of that.

At Bullseye Wood Specialties, we design and build custom entertainment centers and media wall built-ins for homes in Fairfax, McLean, Arlington, Great Falls, Vienna, and across the Northern Virginia region. Every piece is built in our Tysons-area millshop and installed as permanent cabinetry, not furniture pushed against a wall.

What Is a Media Wall Built-In?

A media wall built-in treats the TV wall as an architectural element. Cabinetry runs floor to ceiling, surrounding the television with storage, shelving, and display space   all sized to the proportions of the room.

Depending on your layout and how you use the room, a media wall can include:

  • A dedicated TV panel, recessed or flush-mounted

  • Closed cabinetry below for gaming systems, AV receivers, and streaming devices

  • Open shelving for books, art, and displayed objects

  • Upper closed cabinets for concealed storage

  • Built-in cord management and power access

  • Fireplace surrounds integrated into the cabinetry run

  • Accent lighting on shelves or inside upper cabinets

  • A built-in bar section at the side

The finished result is a room that looks intentionally not assembled piece by piece over the years.

Popular Layouts We Build in Northern Virginia

Every media wall starts with the wall dimensions and how the room is used. These are the most common configurations we build for homes in this area:

Full-width media wall

Cabinetry spans the entire wall, typically 12 to 20 feet. The TV anchors the center, flanked by symmetrical towers of open shelving, closed cabinets, or a mix. This works well in Colonial homes in Burke, Springfield, and Vienna, where the main living room has a long, flat wall opposite the seating area.

Asymmetric media wall

The TV sits off-center, with a taller cabinet tower on one side and lower cabinetry on the other. Common in contemporary townhomes in Arlington and Reston, where the room layout doesn't allow for a fully centered setup. When executed in built-in cabinetry, the asymmetry reads as a design choice rather than a workaround.

Fireplace integration

Some of the most requested projects involve building the media wall around an existing fireplace. The TV goes above or beside the fireplace, and built-in cabinetry extends on both sides and overhead, creating a single cohesive feature wall. This is a common project in McLean and Great Falls homes.

Library and media hybrid

Upper shelving is open and book-focused; lower cabinetry handles all AV equipment. A practical choice for home offices that double as media rooms, or for homeowners who want the built-in bookcase look alongside full entertainment functionality.

Cord Management and AV Integration

This is where custom-built-ins have a clear edge over furniture. We plan cable runs, power outlet placement, and ventilation for AV components during the design phase before a single piece of wood is cut.

What that means in the finished room:

  • No visible cords running from the TV to components below

  • Ventilated cabinet bays for receivers and streaming devices that generate heat

  • In-wall HDMI and power runs, coordinated with your electrician

  • Discreet wire channels routed through cabinet back panels

If you are adding a new TV, we coordinate the placement and any wall prep during design so the installation is clean from the start.

Materials, Finishes, and Hardware

We build every entertainment center from 3/4" Baltic birch plywood cabinet boxes, solid wood face frames, and solid wood or MDF door fronts. The finish is applied in our controlled millshop environment, not on-site, which means a cleaner, more consistent surface.

Common finish choices for Northern Virginia living rooms:

  • Painted white or off-white, the most common choice for Colonial and transitional homes

  • Painted navy, charcoal, or black   works well for contemporary and modern interiors

  • Stained wood   walnut, white oak, and maple are in high demand right now

  • Two-tone   painted lower cabinets with a stained open shelving section above

Hardware pulls, knobs, hinges, and shelf pin styles are selected during the design phase to match the existing interior of your home.
